A root canal is a procedure that involves treatment for infections in the tooth's pulp (which carries the nerve). A root canal's purpose is to save the tooth as opposed to pulling it. A root canal may be indicated if you have a large cavity in close proximity to the nerve, a damaged tooth or if bacteria/plaque infects the tooth's pulp. Throbbing tooth pain that doesn't go away, swelling, discoloration are some indications that you may need a root canal.
A thorough exam with Dr. Lapalme is always the first step for any treatment. During an exam Dr. Lapalme will perform a series of tests to see which treatment is indicated for your situation.
