Extractions

Why Would I Need To Get A Tooth Pulled?

Our goal is to always preserve the life of a tooth but in some cases that is not always possible and a tooth extraction/removal is indicated. An extraction may be indicated if there is severe tooth fracture, damage or decay, severe gum disease, tooth impaction or injury.

Procedure:

Dr. Lapalme will typically do an examination and we will take a specific x-ray of the area to identify the problem and she will talk about possible options with you. If there is infection at the site she will most likely prescribe antibiotics to clear the infection before we proceed with the extraction. When the day of extraction comes along we always review your medical history, medications and health conditions.

Dr. Lapalme will use local anesthetic to numb you during the procedure and proceed with your extraction. Following your extraction you will be biting down on gauze pads to stop the bleeding and we will go over aftercare with you.

After Care:

-Keep the site clean

-Take acetaminophen and ibuprofen if needed to ease discomfort

-Avoid strenuous activity for a couple of days

-Stick to softer foods for the first few days

-Avoid rinsing, drinking through straws, spitting and smoking for 24 hours to avoid complications

Questions?

Having issues or have any further questions after your extraction? Give us a call and we will be more than happy to help!
