We recommend bringing your child in routinely every 6 to 9 months to help them feel comfortable in the office's environment and with our dental team. At your child's routine visits, we will do a thorough examination of their teeth and soft tissues, ensuring that their teeth are coming in nicely and are free of disease (tooth decay). The hygienist will do a thorough dental cleaning, evaluate their oral health and will even go through oral hygiene instructions to help improve their dental health!

The first dental visit is recommended at the age of 12 months old or when your child's first tooth appears. At their visits, Dr. Lapalme will do a thorough examination which helps monitor their teeth and prevent disease. By preventing and detecting dental issues early, maintaining good oral hygiene and identifying crowding or orthodontic problems, routine checkups can help ensure your child's oral health and overall well-being. 

Fluoride is a mineral that helps prevent tooth decay. Fluoride varnish treatments are able to reverse decay at its early stages since it remineralizes the tooth enamel and prevents the growth of bacteria that causes tooth decay. The hygienist will provide fluoride treatments  during a routine dental cleaning to children up until the age of 18. 

Sealants are a treatment that may be indicated for permanent adult molars with deep pits and grooves. A sealant is a protective barrier which seals off the depressions (pits and grooves) of the back teeth making it more difficult for bacteria and plaque to adhere to the surface, thus preventing tooth decay. 

We may take x-rays to help us further evaluate the health of your child's teeth. X-Rays allow us to find any hidden decay (cavities) and they even allows us to see developing adult teeth. We also have a panoramic x-ray machine at our Sudbury office, which rotates around their head in order to take x-rays without causing any pain or anxiety!
