A crown is a cap that covers the tooth. We use crowns to restore strength, improve function and improve aesthetics. Crowns are recommended for teeth at high risk of fracture, for heavily restored teeth, for root canal treated teeth and to cover dental implants.
A bridge is designed to replace missing teeth. This appliance can help improve appearance, avoid shifting of the teeth and restore function, such as chewing. A bridge is made up of crowns that fit over your natural teeth on either side of the space and artificial teeth which fill in the gap left by the missing teeth
Both crowns and bridges require a two step procedure. The first step implies preparing the teeth and taking impressions (molds) of your upper and lower arches which will be sent to the lab for fabrication. Once the lab work is completed, you will come back to the office in order for Dr. Lapalme to cement your permanent appliance in place!
